Samenvatting
Door Girolamo Zanchi in de context van de Venetiaanse renaissance van de zestiende eeuw te plaatsen, betoogt dit proefschrift dat Zanchi een eclectische renaissancetheoloog was, wiens theologie putte uit het intellectuele erfgoed van de Venetiaanse renaissance, dat gekenmerkt werd door Griekse geleerdheid met Byzantijnse invloeden, gematigd kerkelijk ciceronianisme, gechristianiseerd aristotelisme met humanistische, neoplatonische en concordistische kenmerken, een vrij vereenvoudigde versie van de scholastisch-thomistische theologie, en een stroming van platonisch oriëntalisme die hermetische, rabbijnse en kabbalistische bronnen omvat.

| Samenvatting (EN): | By situating Girolamo Zanchi in the sixteenth-century Venetian Renaissance, this dissertation argues that Zanchi was an eclectic Renaissance theologian, whose theology draws upon the Venetian Renaissance intellectual heritage, characterized by Byzantine-influenced Greek scholarship, moderate clerical Ciceronianism, Christianized Aristotelianism with humanistic, Neoplatonic, and concordist features, a rather simplified version of scholastic-Thomistic theology, and a strand of Platonic Orientalism that incorporates Hermetic, rabbinic, and Kabbalistic sources. |
